Hyundai Staria 10-Seater Now Available In Malaysia
Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) has launched the 10-seater version of the Hyundai Staria MPV. This variant comes after the introduction of the premium 7-seater version in October 2021. The 10-seater is available in 3 variants i.e. Lite (RM179,888), Plus (RM196,888) and Max (RM209,888).
All of the new variants are catered to buyers who need to ferry more than 6 pairs of derriere, particularly large families or businesses that require a people mover e.g. hospitality sector, company fleet vehicle, etc. The 10 seats are laid out in a 2-3-2-3 manner, although it can be considered an 11-seater as there is a ‘jump seat’ in the first row with its 3-point seat belt. But that works more comfortably as an armrest with cup holders for the 2 front occupants.
For the driver, it is a digital cockpit, with a 10.25″ instrument cluster (4.2″ for the Lite) and an 8″ touchscreen infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The top-of-the-10-seater-range Staria Max naturally comes with more goodies. It is equipped with a 360-surround view camera, powered liftgate, dual zone climate control, smart sliding door with one-touch button, smart walk-in entry system, wireless phone charging pad, auto light control, and Nappa leather seats with 8-way + 4-way lumbar powered adjustment for the driver.
The more budget-friendly Lite variant meanwhile makes do with less such as fabric seats, manual air-conditioning, non-LED rear lamps, no tweeter for the sound system, manually operated sliding doors, no auto light control, and lid-less dash-top storage. The Plus sits in the middle with a mix and match of compromises e.g. its seats are semi-Nappa, and it has powered sliding doors (but without the smart function). However, all variants have 8 USB ports and lots of cabin storage. The Lite also stands out with a sliding window panel in the rear door.
The physical dimensions are the same as the more premium 7-seater i.e. a wheelbase of 3,273 mm and overall length of 5,253 mm, and width of 1,997 mm. Its overall height of 1,990 mm has been optimised for the ease of passengers to enter and exit the vehicle. Further, it has a maximum cargo volume of 1,024 litres.
For safety, the Staria has 3 ISOFIX-ready seats in the second row, 6 airbags, Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Stability Control, Vehicle Stability Management, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, and Traction Control System. The Hyundai Smartsense suite of active safety and driving assistance technologies i.e. Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) and Smart Cruise Control (SCC) with Stop and Go, is fitted only in the Max variant. However, the Lite and Plus do have Rear Occupant Alert, Parking Distance Warning, and reverse view cameras (the Plus goes one up with a surround view feature). Moreover, the Lite and Plus run on 17″ tyres while the Max uses 18″ like the 7-seater.
And like the 7-seater, the same 2.2 CRDi turbo diesel engine and 8-speed transmission powers the front wheels of these 3 variants. Power output is rated at 177 PS @ 3,800 rpm and 431 Nm @ 1,500 – 2,500 rpm. The high-efficiency, air-cooled turbocharger has an improved compressor and turbine wheel performance for better low-speed torque performance. Naturally, driving modes are included i.e. Smart, Normal, Eco and Sport.
“The Staria and especially the 10-seater is designed to accommodate a variety of lifestyles and business needs. Its interior space and functionalities aim to transform how people experience in-car travel and provide greater flexibility of use for their needs,” commented Mr Low Yuan Lung, Managing Director of HSDM. Apart from using it as a people mover or for transporting cargo, the fully flat seats can also be turned into a bed platform to fit a couple for camping trips, as per its display at the launch roadshow in 1 Utama.
“The Staria has won several accolades for its design excellence and product innovation. It was honoured with the 2021 GOOD DESIGN Award in the transportation category and recognized in the ‘Best Cars 2022’ readers’ poll organized by Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport magazine,” said Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director of Sime Darby Motors Retail and Distribution.
The Hyundai Staria is covered by a standard 2-year or 50,000 km (whichever comes first) warranty. You can also opt to add RM10,000 for a coverage upgrade to a 5-year or 300,000 km (whichever comes first) warranty + 3-year or 50,000 km (whichever comes first) Free Service.
