Swift Haulage Bhd To Be First To Add Volvo Electric Trucks To Its Fleet
Swift Haulage Berhad has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Volvo Trucks Malaysia for the purchase of electric trucks, exploration of the potential of establishing a charging network, development of qualified human capital, and sharing of electro mobility technology.
The MoU marks the first step in Swift Haulage’s electro mobility journey and highlights its commitment to sustainability across all facets of its operations. Swift is Malaysia’s largest haulier and leading integrated logistics service provider. The interest in including Volvo electric trucks into its fleet reflects Swift’s responsible procurement efforts that will help accelerate its environmental sustainability objectives. Upon confirmation, Swift will be the first company to purchase electric Volvo trucks in Malaysia. Likewise, Volvo Trucks will be the first to sell electric commercial vehicles in Malaysia.
Volvo Trucks has the most complete electric lineup in the global truck industry, from trucks for city distribution and refuse handling, to urban construction transports and regional haulage. As such, Swift believes that entering into a partnership with industry leaders such as Volvo Trucks, which shares similar values and aspirations, would enable the company to meet its objective of attaining a more environmentally sustainable fleet and reduce its overall emissions.
“It is part of Swift’s strategy to grow our business whilst adopting sustainable technology that can improve operational efficiency and effectiveness while reducing carbon emissions. We have therefore decided to take the leap and make the shift to electro mobility. Over the longer term, we hope to convert our whole fleet to electric trucks. We are therefore glad to have Volvo Trucks with us on our journey in making the switch,” said Loo Yong Hui, Group CEO of Swift Haulage Berhad.
