Locally Assembled Kia Carnival Now Available
Details and the retail prices of the new CKD Kia Carnival have been revealed by Dinamikjaya Motors Sdn Bhd, the new sole distributor for Kia in Malaysia. Labeled as a Grand Utility Vehicle (GUV), the locally assembled Carnival comes with the choice of 3 variants with 7 or 8 seats, priced as such (on the road in Peninsular Malaysia for private insurance and before insurance):
- 2.2D Mid (8-seater) : RM231,228.80
- 2.2D High (8-seater) : RM247,228.80
- 2.2D High (7-seater) : RM261,228.80
The 3-row Carnival is the first Kia model to be assembled at the Inokom Assembly plant located in Kulim, Kedah, under the new distributor.
The Carnival continues to be powered by a 2.2L turbo diesel engine that is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, controlled by an electronic shifter (E-Shift). Power output is 199 hp @ 3,800 rpm and 440 Nm of torque @ 1,750 – 2,750 rpm. Having had a go with the Carnival on a road trip, it can be safely said that power delivery is more than adequate (for a GUV), smooth and most importantly, feels comfortable to the passengers.
The locally assembled 4th generation Carnival gets newly added driving comfort features, now standard across all variants. Standard kit includes the Smart Power Sliding Doors and Smart Power Liftgate, Smart Key with one-button open / close function for the rear sliding doors and liftgate, and sunshades for both rear rows’ windows. Other standard options include 18″ alloy wheels, Dual LED Headlights and LED Daytime Running Lights, a 12.3″ high resolution LCD Touchscreen Infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connected to a BOSE 12-speaker system, wireless charger and 7 USB ports.
As for the variant’s additional enhancements, the 2 high variants (7- & 8-seater) get a driver’s seat with 8-way powered adjustment, 4-way lumbar support, heating and ventilation, and memory function. They also enjoy a 12.3″ Digital Instrument Cluster, Interior LED lamps, Surround View Monitor and Dual Power sunroof. Additionally, the 7-seater High variant has Leather seats (instead of Leatherette) and Premium Relaxion seats in the 2nd row with a center walkthrough layout. These 2nd row seats also feature heating and ventilation. The top 2 variants also have a Surround View Monitor while the Mid variant only has a reverse camera view.
Furthermore, the Carnival 2.2D 8-seater High and 7-seater High are now equipped with newly added advanced safety features such as High Beam Assist (HBA), Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW), Blind-Spot Collison-Avoidance (BCA), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Following Assist (LFA), Driver Attention Warning (DAW), Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA) and Smart Cruise Control (SCC). These features are part of Kia’s commitment to help keep drivers safe on the road.
Apart from the added safety features, the Carnival is built with a lighter and stronger platform making use of hot-stamped parts and ultra-high-strength steel for increased average tensile strength and torsional stiffness, while providing better driving dynamics. The improved aerodynamics from wheels, front bumpers and mirrors also contribute to better fuel efficiency.
Available exterior colour choices are Astra Blue, Sonic Silver, Jet Black, Snowflake White Pearl and Meteor Gray. Meanwhile, the Kia Carnival is covered by a 5-year Manufacturer Warranty (or 100,000 km, whichever comes first) and includes a 5-year Free Scheduled Maintenance package (or 100,000 km, whichever comes first).
