Updated Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace Variants Launched

Two variants of the updated Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace have been launched by Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM). The variants are the Tiguan Allspace Elegance, and Tiguan Allspace R-Line 4MOTION, both of which locally assembled in Pekan, Pahang.

Both variants get a new fascia that features a redesigned grille, refreshed bumper, and sleeker headlamps. Other design upgrades include the signature LED illuminated light strip, the ‘Tiguan’ lettering on the rear, and the new Volkswagen logo.

The Tiguan Allspace headlamps and taillights are full LED units, with wider light distribution that is suitable for city driving. Furthermore, the high beam provides almost double the brightness for pitch black or poor lighting scenarios. Additionally, the taillights come with dynamic indicators.

As added safety in any climate condition, the headlamps also include an all-weather light system and dynamic cornering lights for improved visibility. Meanwhile the taillight cluster has a distinctive lighting signature (click-clack effect) when brakes are applied.

The Elegance variant is dressed with numerous chrome elements on the exterior, as well as with ‘Allspace’ specific side trim, and standard silver-painted side mirrors. The ‘Frankfurt’ alloy wheels are wrapped in 18″ tyres. Meanwhile, the R-Line variant stands out with different front and rear bumpers, side trims, and a roof spoiler. It wears larger 19” ‘Valencia’ alloy wheels.

The Elegance is fitted with a 1.4L TSI turbo engine paired with a 6-speed DSG (direct shift gearbox). This set has an output of 150 PS and 250 Nm of torque. Official average fuel consumption is approximately 7.7l/100km. In contrast, the R-Line 4MOTION variant has a 2.0L TSI turbo engine paired with a 7-speed DSG that puts out 220 PS and 350 Nm. This power is transferred via a 4MOTION all-wheel drive system for better traction and control. Its average fuel consumption is approximately 8.6l/100km.

Additionally, the Elegance has 4 driving modes i.e. Eco, Normal, Sport and Individual. On the other hand, the R-Line has a driving mode selection with Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) with 4 additional modes as part of the 4MOTION system i.e. On-road, Off-road, Off-road Expert, and Snow. It is also fitted with progressive steering that offers sharper and more precise manoeuvring.

Driving safety is prioritised with the inclusion of the Lane Assist system in both variants. It will detect if the vehicle drifts into another lane without indication, then gently steers it back. The system recognises road edges, and detects kerbs, grass verges, and lane markings. A Driver Alert system is also standard to both.

Other notable safety features include 6 airbags (Elegance) / 7 airbags (R-Line), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Brake Assist (BA), Multi-collision brakes, Intelligent Crash Response System (ICRS), and Electronic Parking Brake (EPB). Hill Descent Control however, is only found in the R-Line.

New is the Easy Open and Easy Close feature which provides convenient hands-free opening and delayed closing of the boot.

The seats are wrapped in Vienna leather, with the addition of active climate seats for the driver and front passenger. These ventilated seats provide cooling or heating according to your preference, and can be electrically adjusted in 12 ways too. The interior of the R-Line variant is differentiated by the R-Line styling, as well as decorative trims in Carbon Grey.

Gear positions are shown on the interface with illumination to highlight which gear is engaged. Further, the R-Line gets a premium Harman Kardon 480W sound system with 10 speakers for entertainment.
