Maserati Ghibli Hybrid Now In Malaysia

Maserati’s first electrified vehicle, the Ghibli Hybrid, is now available in Malaysia. And even though the Trident brand caters to a niche crowd, it nonetheless signals the trend of the electrified vehicle portfolio in Malaysia growing again.

Staying true to its DNA, Maserati has chosen a hybrid solution focused primarily on improving performance, while also reducing fuel consumption and emissions. The hybrid technology exploits the kinetic energy of the car accumulated when in motion, recovering it and then transforming it into electricity during deceleration and braking, and then storing it in a battery.

This innovative powertrain has been completely restyled by Maserati Innovation Lab in Modena, to achieve greater torque. It combines a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged internal combustion engine with a 48V alternator and an additional electric supercharger (e-Booster), supported by a battery. This solution is unique in its segment as it enables the turbocharger and e-booster to deliver even more power. It is the first in a new generation of powertrains, with the perfect trade-off between performance, efficiency and driving pleasure.

The hybrid powerplant generates 330 hp and 450 Nm of torque from 2,250 rpm, and enables the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds; its top speed maxes out at 255 km/h. The hybrid battery is placed in the rear of the car to improve weight distribution. And even with all the new electrical bits, the new Ghibli Hybrid still weighs about 80 kg less than the V6 diesel variant.

Despite being a hybrid, the new Ghibli Hybrid still bears the unmistakable sound that is synonymous with Maserati cars, courtesy of the optimised exhaust, which includes specially designed resonators.

This Maserati Ghibli Hybrid is easily recognisable with the new blue theme. Restyled by the Centro Stile Maserati, the blue is adopted as a symbol of clean mobility. On the exterior, the blue colour is found on the 3 iconic side air ducts, the brake callipers and the thunderbolt in the oval that encloses the Trident on the rear pillar. The same blue is also used inside the car, particularly on the embroidered seams of the seats.

Moreover, the new Ghibli Hybrid also introduces new stylistic content, with a more elegant new front grille, with bars redesigned to represent a tuning fork while also evoking the likeness of the Trident symbol. There are also significant changes at the rear of the car with restyled light clusters, with a boomerang-like profile inspired by the 3200 GT and the Alfieri concept car.

Furthermore, exclusive distributor, Naza Italia-Maserati, has brought in the new Ghibli Hybrid in GranSport trim for the Malaysia market. This variant’s exterior features an updated front grille with a more aggressive and sportier Black Piano finish; Nerissimo package and 20” wheels.

On the interior, the sculpted sport seats are upholstered with a premium full-grain “Pieno Fiore” natural leather. It is processed to develop a unique character over the years, and is complemented by dark blue contrast stitching and embroidered Trident on the headrests. Additionally, the dashboard’s wood trim is finished in carbon twill high-gloss, and the roof lining is premium Alcantara.

For those who demand the finest aural experience, Maserati offers for all models in Malaysia the Bowers & Wilkins Premium Surround Sound System with 15 speakers, a 1,280 W amplifier and perfectly-configured QuantumLogic™ Surround.

The introduction of the Active ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) package in the Ghibli Hybrid further makes the car even safer in all forms of driving conditions.

“The choice to introduce the hybrid technology on the Ghibli sedan is not a coincidence: this model, with over 100,000 units produced globally since its launch in 2013, perfectly embodies the Modena-based manufacturer’s DNA. In fact, the real challenge that Maserati faced was to enter the world of electrification without altering the brand’s core philosophy and values. The result is the creation of the best possible hybrid. What’s more, Ghibli Hybrid will retain the unmistakable sound that has always distinguished every Maserati,” said Dato’ Nik Hamdam, Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Automotive Group, Naza Corporation Holdings.Maserati_Ghibli Hybrid_
