Mercedes-Benz GLA 200 And GLA 250 Launched In Malaysia

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has launched the new GLA to add to its portfolio of SUVs. This entry level range to the premium German marque is available in two variants i.e. GLA 200 Progressive Line and GLA 250 AMG Line.

The Mercedes-Benz GLA is a mini SUV with short overhangs in the front and rear. At 4.41 metres long, it is the shortest vehicle from the current Mercedes-Benz portfolio and fits comfortably into city life, while offering enough passenger space.

The clear contours, with reduced lines and accentuated planes, convey serene sportiness and modernity. Typical of the GLA are the powerful shoulders of the bodywork and the coupé-like lines of the side windows. Further, all-round protective cladding adds structure to the overall proportions and emphasises the vehicle’s character, as does the simulated underride guard at the front and rear. The front opening is distinct between the two variants, with the AMG Line featuring the diamond grille design. LED High Performance headlamps finish off the urban look.

The GLA 200 Progressive Line is equipped with 18″ 5-twin-spoke light alloy wheels while the GLA 250 AMG Line use 19″ wheels. The AMG Line enhances the sporty presence of the vehicle with lowered and dynamically tuned suspension.

Although it is shorter than its predecessor on the exterior, the new GLA offers a more spacious interior. This benefits the legroom in the rear and luggage compartment. The seating position for both the driver and the front passenger is higher and more upright than in the predecessor model, and thus more typical of an SUV.

Utility value was one of the focuses of development. The rear seat back rest can be can be split 40:20:40, with each section folding down individually for carrying flexibility. When the rear seat backrests are folded down and the height-adjustable load floor is in the upper position, an almost flat loading area extending to the front seats can be created.

The cut-out on the driver’s side is dominated by the free-standing display unit made up of two 10.25″ displays. The latest generation of the Mercedes me connect is also a standard feature in the GLA.

Also featured in both models is the MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system. MBUX can be individually configured with the aid of a range of options.

The GLA also features a host of driving assistance systems such as Active Brake Assist, offering the driver cooperative support and providing one of the highest standards of active safety in the compact car segment.

Blind Spot Assist is available in the GLA 250 to warn of vehicles, including bicycles, in the danger zone. For the first time, when the vehicle is at a standstill it can signal to the driver with a visual warning in the exterior mirror before they climb out that a vehicle is driving past.

Powering the new GLA are different sets of modern four-cylinder engines. The GLA 200 Progressive Line is powered by a 1.3L turbocharged engine combined with the 7G-DCT dual clutch transmission. Power generated is 163 hp and 250 Nm of torque. Its official 0-100 km/h sprint time is 8.7 seconds.

Meanwhile, the GLA 250 AMG Line uses a larger 2.0L turbocharged engine with an 8G-DCT automatic transmission with 224 hp and 350 Nm. This enables it to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in only 6.9 seconds.
