Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia Introduces New Discovery Sport R-Dynamic In Choice Of 5-Seater And 5+2-Seater

Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia has introduced the new Land Rover Discovery Sport, this time in the R-Dynamic variant with a choice of a 5-seat and 5+2 seat (high spec) model. The retail prices are RM379,800 and RM409,800 respectively (for private registration in Peninsular Malaysia, without road tax and insurance). Like all other officially distributed Jaguar Land Rover vehicles, the Discovery Sport R-Dynamic is covered by the ‘Land Rover Care’ programme which is a 5-year or 150,000 km warranty (whichever comes first), and 5-year or 65,000 km servicing programme and 3-year roadside assistance.

All vehicles distributed by Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia (including this compact premium SUV) are compatible with the Malaysian climate, environment, fuel quality and meet the Malaysian emission standards.

The new Land Rover Discovery Sport R-Dynamic continues with the quintessential Discovery design DNA with its striking visual impact. The new design cues show a sportier silhouette and a bolder front fascia. Modernity and refinement are also reflected in the new signature LED headlamps at the front and rear, alongside a new front grille and bumpers while maintaining the Land Rover’s trademark design which includes a prominent clamshell bonnet, rising beltline and a tapered roof.

Further details have been included to improve the driving experience and sophistication of the car. One such improvement is the new power transfer feature called Driveline Disconnect, which is integrated into the All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system. This feature works by disconnecting the drive of the front axle to the rear wheels under steady state cruising, thereby reducing frictional losses and re-engaging AWD in less than 500 milliseconds.

Moreover, the Terrain Response 2 mode selection is now also a standard feature in the new Discovery Sport. Terrain 2 Response puts an exceptional amount of Land Rover engineering with a simple twist of the dial to optimise performance on a variety of different surfaces for better traction and control. Each driving mode tunes the response of the throttle, brakes, differentials, and transmission to deliver premium handling. The respective modes are Comfort, Sand, Grass-Gravel-Snow, Mud & Ruts, or just leave it in Auto mode for the vehicle to decide how to adjust its torque delivery to suit the terrain.

The new Discovery Sport is fitted with the efficient 2.0L turbocharged Ingenium Petrol engine which promises a pleasant and satisfying drive. It is mated to the ZF nine-speed automatic transmission for responsive drive. The nine closely-stacked gear ratios provide excellent response and allow for a very low first gear, improved mid-range acceleration and a tall ninth gear for reduced engine revs at higher cruising speeds; all of which, reduces fuel consumption, emissions and engine noise.

With smart technologies integrated into the vehicle, driving the Discovery Sport is also much more convenient and precise. The ClearSight Ground View, Land Rover’s world-first technology is a new feature for the Discovery Sport. It provides drivers with a clear virtual view of the ground in assisting them to navigate through rough terrains, park in tight spaces and to avoid side kerbs on the road.

Adding on to the smart features of the Discovery Sport is the 10″ high definition Touch Pro infotainment system which includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The advanced touchscreen has a user-friendly interface that allows you to pinch zoom and swipe, as well as customise your home screen with  wallpaper and add widgets. The system also allows the driver to control the climate system and Terrain Response 2. In addition, the Interactive Driver Display has also been fitted as standard with a 12″ high definition screen that displays multiple driving information, entertainment and active safety data, which includes navigation, phone and media.

Also available is a Generation 2 Head-Up Display which presents a greater amount of key information in high-resolution and full colour graphics such as vehicle speed, gear position and navigation directions on the windscreen – to make journeys safer by helping drivers to keep their eyes on the road.

The new Discovery Sport also introduces the wireless device charging, a standard feature that is available in all variants. This allows drivers to charge smartphones with wireless charging capability simply by placing them on the charging mat, located below the centre console.

Safety is always a priority in engineering Land Rover vehicles. The Discovery Sport offers a host of advanced safety technologies features, such as a front and rear parking aid, High-speed Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist and Driver Condition Monitor as well as the 360° Surround Camera that is equipped with Wade Sensing features. An occupant safety package also comes standard with every Land Rover vehicle which includes a total of seven airbags – driver and passenger airbags, knee airbags, side curtain and thorax airbag.
