Hino Motors Sales (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Hino Motors Ltd, and Yamato Transport (M) Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Yamato Group (both of Japan) have joined forces to increase road safety awareness among commercial vehicle drivers in Malaysia. This awareness program is mainly the driver aptitude test (DAT) that is core to the safe driving training and the reduction in road accidents.

The driver aptitude test has been proven effective in Japan to reduce the accident rate of Yamato delivery vehicles, and Yamato, together with Hino, have adapted the programme to Malaysia where Yamato operates its TA-Q-BIN logistics service. This training programme will be held in the Hino Total Support Customer Center (HTSCC) in Sendayan, Negri Sembilan, which is the first and only training centre in Malaysia for commercial vehicles.

Like other training programmes offered at HTSCC, the driver aptitude test is open to all regardless of the brand of commercial vehicle – trucks or buses. The programmes offered here are also HRDF-claimable by employers.

The training programme involves a combination of driver aptitude, hazard perception and driving response diagnosis, lectures as well as vehicle training. The training is based on each driver’s driving characteristics derived from the aptitude test to improve the driver’s weak points.
