Taiwan isn’t known for just bubble tea and instant noodles (the founder of Nissin Foods is Taiwanese); neither is it just a motherboard or bicycle producer. Taiwan is also home to a flourishing automotive parts and accessories industry; in 2015, the production value of this industry (with over 2,500 manufacturers) was US$ 7.3 billion. Of this, US$ 6.7 billion worth of parts were exported (over 90% of total production) to countries like USA, Japan, Thailand, Philippines and Malaysia.

But growing in size is the demand for electronics and communication parts due to the implementation of smart communication and safety technologies in today’s vehicles. Taiwanese manufacturers are now also supplying advanced driver assistance systems such as surround view monitors, tire pressure monitoring systems, head up displays, lane departure warning, fatigue detection, forward collision warning and hill descent control to major brands. A number of Taiwanese manufacturers also design and manufacture parts and systems for Tesla, and are capable of producing electrified powertrains and related electronics systems.
