Renault Owners Have Fun With Safety

A group of Renault owners got to learn more about their cars as well as proper driving at the Renault Driving Experience organised by TC Euro Cars (TCEC), the sole franchise holder of Renault vehicles in Malaysia, recently.

The event was held at the Sepang International Circuit and is an extension of the Renault Track Day, which happens a few times a year since 2010. The Track Day is designed to offer an enhanced ownership experience for Renault Sport owners, who get to use the high-speed track sessions to improve their driving skills in a safe environment.

This time, Renault Captur and Fluence owners get to join in and be part of a defensive driving course to learn more safe driving skills. “We wanted to better equip our customers with some key defensive driving skills, as many traffic collisions can be avoided if drivers are better prepared to react to various scenarios and conditions on the road,” said Kuan Kim Luen, CEO, TC Euro Cars. “The Track Day sessions have been well received by Renault Sport owners. Now with an expanding line-up of mainstream Renault vehicles, we wanted to engage with customers of these models as well and enhance their ownership experience.”

“Road safety is a very serious matter and highly relevant to our business. The aim of the defensive driving course is to help raise awareness of safe driving practices and techniques, especially among the increasing number of young drivers in the country, to help reduce fatalities and injuries caused by traffic accidents,” said Kuan. TCEC plans hold the Renault Driving Experience for Renault and Renault Sport owners on a regular basis.

The Renault Defensive Driving Experience includes a theory lesson about various aspects of safety like the importance of studying the road ahead and of using indicators and safety belts for all car occupants, understanding oversteer and understeer, driving in the rain (and not using hazard lights while driving) as well as other general do’s and do-not’s.

More than that, the correct position also allow you to enjoy a comfortable drive and long journeys will feel less tiring. Correct hand positioning on the steering wheel (the 3 and 9 o’clock positions) is equally important for quicker, more precise reactions to avoid accidents or obstacles.

The practical session included the use of Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) to get a feel of how these driving aids help you keep control of your car in an emergency manouever and how you should react in such situations.

30 Renault owners participated in the defensive driving course and 25 Renault Sport owners took part in the track session. Some of the cars on track included the Megane R.S., Clio R.S. and even a couple of limited-edition Megane R.S. 275 Trophy R, which went out to test the driver’s skills and the car’s performance. First-timers to Sepang received guidance from instructors before going out on track.

There were also some prospective buyers present to experience the performance and handling of Renault Sport cars in ‘taxi rides’ around the circuit with professional drivers.
