Toyota Corolla Altis Upgraded For 2017

The Toyota Corolla Altis has been upgraded for 2017, with more safety as well as refinement to enhance its value-for-money proposition. This latest upgrade comes as the model completes its first 50 years and best reflects the kaizen (continuous improvement) philosophy of Toyota with constant advancement of each generation introduced since 1966.

Besides contributing to society’s motorisation in Japan, it has also done the same in many countries, including Malaysia, providing durable and reliable personal transportation for families and individuals,” said Akio Takeyama, Deputy Chairman of UMW Toyota Motor.

There are three variants available – the 2.0V, 1.8G and Altis 1.8E. Two new exterior colours, Phantom Brown Metallic and Red Mica Metallic, join the 4 existing choices of White Pearl CS, Silver Metallic, Grey Metallic and Attitude Black. All variants will feature a black themed cabin.

The 2.0 litre (3ZR-FE) and 1.8 litre (2ZR-FE) engines with 16-valve DOHC with Dual VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing with intelligence) are maintained. These put out 145 PS, 197 Nm and 139 PS, 173 Nm respectively. The engines are paired to a 7-speed CVT with Sport Sequential Shiftmatic Mode, with manual shifting feature. Further, Sport Mode is available across all grades which help to maintain higher rpm for quick response on re-acceleration for a sportier drive.

The Corolla Altis 2.0V and 1.8G come with an Optitron meter combination with 4.2-inch colour Multi-Info Display (MID).

Upgraded equipment include 7 airbags (driver, passenger, driver knee, sides and curtains airbag) and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) in all variants of the Corolla Altis. VSC works with Traction Control (TRC) to help neutralise skidding, especially when cornering, and also improves stability during sudden lane-change manoeuvres, such as when trying to avoid a collision or obstacle.

This upgrade of safety features in the Corolla Altis model, which covers all variants sold in ASEAN, netted Toyota the Rising Star Recognition Award from ASEAN NCAP recently.

All variants also come with driver and passenger seatbelt reminders, ISOFIX points, front and rear parking sensors, seatbelts with pre-tensioner and force limiter, ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA).

Reverse Link Tilt Down wing mirrors have also been added and will automatically tilt down when in reverse gear to enhance visibility of the area along the sides and help ease parking.

The Corolla Altis has a 5-star rating from ASEAN NCAP and this is partly due to its Global Outstanding Assessment (GOA) body structure. This structure is very rigid to protect the occupants during an accident by absorbing and dispersing impact energy (from frontal collisions) through the entire body frame during a collision, reducing the severe forces on the occupants.

On the exterior, changes to the Corolla Altis include new front and rear bumpers with a new grille design which visually emphasises the car’s width and planted stance. All variants now come standard with LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs).

Some changes have also been made in the cabin for enhanced functionality and convenience. You also have the option of upgrading the infotainment system to enjoy more features and capability. A Digital Video Recorder (DVR) is also available to record the view ahead while driving.
