New Proton Perdana Launched; Priced From RM 113,888

After what seems like an eternity of teaser and spy shots, the new Proton Perdana is finally out in the open. Two variants are available – the 2-litre priced at RM 113,888 (metallic paint) and the 2.4-litre at RM 138,888 (also metallic). The 2-litre variant is competitively priced in Japanese C-segment territory even though it’s physically a D-segment.

Some might wonder why a local brand is priced as such but that’s because (if you didn’t already know) the 2016 Proton Perdana is a re-skinned version of the 8th generation Honda Accord; there’s barely a semblance of the Accord left making the Perdana totally Proton’s. This is different from the Lancer/Inspira which was a pure rebadging exercise.

But what’s underneath is practically still very much Honda Accord. The engines are the familiar i-VTEC ones found in the previous generation Accord – 2-litre SOHC 4-cylinder producing 154 hp and 189 Nm of torque as well as the 2.4-litre DOHC 4-cylinder with 178 hp and 222 Nm. Both are paired with Honda’s 5-speed automatic gearbox.

The suspension (double wishbone front, multi-link rear) too remains unchanged so the driving experience will pretty much feel like a Honda’s.

Standard kit across the range includes 17″ wheels, LED daytime running lights, tilt & telescoping steering, dual zone climate control, rear cooling vents, partial leather seats, cruise control, front & rear parking sensors, 8-way powered driver’s seat, remote powered windows and Proton’s Infotainment System.

This system is made up of a 6.2″ touchscreen with reverse camera, Bluetooth, USB and AUX connectivity as well as six speakers. it also sets the Perdana’s interior apart from the Accord it is based on and makes the Perdana a dual-screen affair; the original screen on the dashboard top shows the time, and in the 2.4-litre variant – the navigation map. Other standard features for both are four airbags (dual front and sides), ABS, EBD and Isofix points.

The Perdana 2.4 gets the additional 4-way powered front passenger seat, a subwoofer, auto HID headlights (2.0 makes do with halogen projectors), paddle shifters and Electronic Stability Control (ESC).

The Perdana 2.4 has its interior dressed in a beige theme while the 2.0 gets black.
