Porsche 911 R For The Purist

Porsche 911 R For The Purist

Porsche purists can yell ‘Hurrah!’. With shots of an undisguised test car abound and some ‘information leak’ from the horse’s mouth, we should expect the Porsche 911 R to show itself at the Geneva Motor Show this March.

It looks like the 911 R will slot between the 911 Carrera GTS and 911 GT3 in Porsche’s lineup, And if it wears the R moniker like the 1967 Porsche 911 R. expect the new one to be a barebones, stripped-out car with liberal use of lightweight materials.

Shots of the undisguised test car show that the Porsche 911 R will be based on the GT3 but without the bookshelf rear wing.

As a car for the purist, it should use the GT3’s  3.8L inline flat 6-cylinder engine that outputs 475hp and 440Nm of torque (although the 4L engine from the GT3 RS is also a possibility) and 6-speed manual transmission. Don’t expect a dual-clutch PDK version, but if you do, you should put your money down for the GT3.  The GT3 can already do 0-100km/h in 3.5 seconds.

???????????????????????

Expect also other parts to be cannibalised from the GT3 but tweaked for more aggressive driving. It might even sport narrower tires for more fun drive.

It’s not all good news though as the 911 R is purportedly a limited edition run. Limited as it may be it should still number in the hundreds instead of 25 like the Koenigsegg Agera RS. But if you can’t get your hands on one, do the 911 GT3 or GT3 RS. Or download the wallpaper for your computer.
