Motor Image Malaysia, the exclusive distributor of Subaru vehicles in Malaysia, has introduced the updated and improved MY16 Subaru XV crossover, with changes to its aesthetics, increase in features and an optimised powertrain to deliver a more enjoyable driving experience.

The facelifted MY16 Subaru XV is available in two variants – 2.0i and 2.0i-Premium – priced at RM 121,000 and RM 125,000 respectively (before taxes and fees), and six colours to choose – Pure White, Ice Silver Metallic, Desert Khaki, Tangerine Orange Pearl, Dark Grey Metallic and Obsidian Black Pearl.

On the outside, the MY16 Subaru XV the most obvious changes are an updated hexagonal grille, a re-profiled front bumper, new fog light housing and rear tail lights sporting clear lens. The 17″ rim design has also been altered though the changes is less than obvious. What stays the same is the XV’s sleek sporty demeanor.

According to Marc Gurusamy of Motor Image’s Regional Product Planning, Subaru engineers have tweaked the XV’s chassis to make it more nimble. They have also made improvements to noise insulation by adding insulation materials to the A and D pillar trim, rear wheel arches and roof trim as well as improved the weather seals around the windows. Also gracing the event was Monika Sta Maria, Subaru ambassador and 1st runner-up of Asia’s Next Top Model.

The XV continues to use the 2.0-litre four-cylinder Horizontally-Opposed Boxer Engine which produces 150PS and 196Nm of torque, and a 6-speed Lineartronic CVT. And as with all Subarus (with the exception of the BRZ), the XV also comes with the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system. Subaru claims the upgraded XV is able to achieve an average fuel consumption of 7.9litre/100km.

Working with the Symmetrical AWD is the Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) system which ensures the Subaru XV’s handling remains nimble and smooth, regardless of the conditions of the road.

In the cabin, small touches of refinement have been incorporated, such as the orange stitching and a redesigned steering wheel with paddle shifters reminiscent of the Outback SUV. For the driver of the Premium model, the XV comes with a revised instrument cluster, keyless entry and start, aluminium pedals, electric seat adjustment, reverse camera and touchscreen multi-function display.

Since its debut, the Subaru XV has also won “Five Stars” in the various global automotive safety tests such as: Japan New Car Assessment Program (JNCAP), Euro NCAP, Australia NCAP and ASEAN NCAP, Top Safety Pick for Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in the USA. The XV comes with a five-year/100,000 km warranty and three years’ free service.
