Mercedes-Benz Malaysia charts record first half growth
Mercedes-Benz passenger car sales in Malaysia hit an all-time half-yearly high with 5,163 cars sold in first six months of 2015, making the brand once again the best-selling premium brand in the country and marking an incredible 53 percent year-on-year jump from the corresponding period of 2014 which saw 3,366 cars sold.
Bulk of sales continue to be contributed by core models, namely the C-, E-, and S-Classes, all of which are locally assembled in Pekan and collectively account for 3,787 vehicles sold during the period. Leading the way is the E-Class which, boosted by overwhelming demand for the E 300 BlueTec Hybrid, delivered 1,967 sales, registering a 41 percent year-on-year growth.
The newly-launched W205 C-Class is the next biggest seller, chipping in with 1,104 sales, which represents a 38 percent increase from last year. Also going strong is the S-Class, which went from 419 units in the first half of 2014 to 719 units this year. Previously, Mercedes-Benz took three years between 2004 and 2006 to sell that same number of the S-Class.
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Passenger Cars, Mark Raine explained that another key contributor to the successful sales figures was its compact cars consisting of the A-Class, CLA, and GLA, which registered a growth of 32 per cent to 1,348 units.
For the rest of 2015, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia remains confident and optimistic of maintaining its growth. President and CEO, Roland Folger said, “We are always looking at ways to enhance customers’ experience. With the implementation of a double shift at the Pekan production plant we are able to fulfil orders in a shorter time, and with a strong nationwide dealer network, customers can be assured of the best after-sales experience.”
