Honda HR-V slated for Feb 2015 launch
Honda Malaysia has confirmed that its eagerly anticipated B-segment compact SUV, the all-new HR-V, will launch in Malaysia in February 2015. Known as the Vezel in Japan, the new model slots below the popular CR-V in Honda’s model hierarchy and revives a long-dormant nameplate not in use since 2006.
Based on the same platform that also spawned Honda’s B-segment passenger cars, namely the City and Jazz, the HR-V is powered by Honda’s 1.8-litre SOHC i-VTEC engine borrowed from the Civic and fitted with the company’s new generation Earth Dreams CVT. The new compact and lightweight CVT features a high-efficiency electric oil pump and high strength belt, features which Honda claims to improve fuel economy whilst delivering smooth rapid acceleration.
Externally, the stylish HR-V stretches the tape measure to 4,294mm in length and 1,772mm in width; compared to other SUVs, it is comfortably smaller than the CR-V, but similar in size with the Mitsubishi ASX. It is also worth noting that the HR-V’s wheelbase of 2,610mm is only 10mm shorter than the CR-V’s. Rims are conservatively sized (a pleasant surprise) at 16 inches.
Being platform mates with the Jazz has enabled the HR-V to benefit from the hatchback’s unique central fuel tank layout, which in turn leads to the exceptionally efficient interior packaging which we’ve come to associate Honda vehicles with by default. Like in the Jazz, the HR-V’s rear seats can be configured into three cargo-carrying modes, namely Utility Mode, Tall Mode, and Long Mode. Interestingly, Honda avoids using the Ultra Seats name for this one.
On the equipment front, Honda is seeking to continue its newfound practice of generosity by lining the HR-V up with advanced features such as a seven-inch display audio screen, touch panel climate control, and one-touch indicators. Parking brake is electronically operated, and it is able to self-release when the driver steps on the throttle after fastening seat belts and slotting the transmission into gear.
Safety features include anti-lock brakes (ABS), electronic brake force distribution (EBD), electronic stability control (VSA), hill start assist, ISOFIX mounts, and six airbags.
The all-new HR-V is open for bookings day at all 77 Honda dealerships nationwide. Members of the public can have a closer look at the vehicle at the following roadshows ahead of its official launch:
