Order taking begins for Lexus RC coupe

by -

Lexus is set to expand its line-up in Malaysia with the imminent introduction of the RC compact premium coupe, a vehicle conceived as a direct competitor to the BMW 4 Series. Booking has officially commenced, with two variants available for order taking.

Main selling variant is likely to be the RC 350 Luxury, priced at nearly RM540k with insurance in Peninsula Malaysia. Power is supplied by Lexus’ tried-and-trusted 3.5-litre naturally-aspirated V6 tuned here to outputs of 312hp and 378Nm. An 8-speed automatic transmission sends traction astern.

At a time when most of its rivals migrate downward in engine capacity, the RC 350’s 3,456cc displacement is striking, and interestingly results in lower OTR prices in East Malaysia, where road taxes are generally lower; in this case, low enough to absorb shipping costs from the Peninsula.

Alternative option in the range would be the RC F performance flagship, which has 470hp and 530Nm at its disposal, courtesy of a high-revving 5.0-litre V8 that delivers its maximum power at 7,100rpm. Like the 350, the RC F is also fitted with a rear-driving 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Including insurance, this variant costs in excess of RM800k in Peninsula Malaysia and about RM6k cheaper in East Malaysia.

The table below summarizes OTR pricing of the two variants in Peninsula Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak:
