New Volvo XC60 – the standard model
Our earlier launch report of the new Volvo XC60 Drive-E showed pictures of a display car that was specced with the full range of optional accessories from Volvo that add up to a whopping RM25k in its launch offer price going up to RM34k after 31 August 2015.
After the small launch event concluded at the Federal Auto Glenmarie branch, the showroom’s personnel brought in another display unit that shows the XC60 in its standard form. Differences to note between the regular model (black) and the specced up version include:
– Rim sizes – regular model rims measure 17 inches as opposed to 20 in the kitted up unit.
– Instrument panel – regular model has analogue dials whilst the kitted up unit has an LCD-based Adaptive Digital Display
– Bodykit, skid plates, and side steps on the kitted unit but absent on the regular unit.
We rarely recommend spending unnecessarily on body kits and skirtings, but looking at the two side by side, it is difficult to deny that the XC60 looks a lot better in its enhanced condition (perhaps explaining why the standard unit was not displayed to the media). Still, going for 20-inch rims is overkill in our books, and a decision you’re likely to regret at your first tyre change. Our wish list is for the option of 18- or 19-inch upgrades.
Inside, the adaptive instrument panel really look like an item worth taking, especially after seeing how uninspiring the regular instruments look in comparison. It’s as though Volvo designed the interior with the adaptive instruments in mind, and then came up with the regular panels as a cost-down alternative.
