No warranty coverage for grey-imported Mercs

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Sdn Bhd has issued a circular to its network of authorized dealers and service centres that parallel-imported Mercedes-Benz vehicles will not enjoy warranty cover by parent company Daimler AG for fuel quality-related failures.

In an often-repeated warning by the company, MBM reiterates that UK-spec and Japan-spec Mercedes-Benz passenger cars brought in via unofficial channels are neither adequately tropicalized nor properly tuned for Euro II fuel as sold in Malaysia.

“The fuel quality in Malaysia does not meet the operating requirement of vehicles produced in other countries. As such, imported vehicles which have not been suitably adapted to the local fuel quality, may experience failures,” explained Mercedes-Benz Malaysia President and CEO, Roland Folger.

“Only vehicles purchased through Mercedes-Benz authorised dealers are prepared adequately for the local conditions and it is our obligation to warn the public of the risks that are taken in purchasing a Mercedes-Benz from an unauthorised dealer.” Folger added.
