Proton confirms appointment of Tun Dr Mahathir as Chairman
Earlier reports of the appointment of former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed as Chairman of Proton and Lotus has been officially confirmed in a statement issued by the company today.
Since stepping down as Prime Minister in 2003, Dr Mahathir continued to play an influential role in the company as its official advisor, and with the new role, he is set to assume a more hands-on approach to the company which he helped create back in 1983.
The company’s statement also confirmed that with Dr Mahathir’s appointment, Tan Sri Khamil Jamil will be stepping down as Executive Chairman of Proton but remain as a member of the company’s board.
