Ford achieves record Q1 sales

Ford’s strong momentum of resurgence continues apace with record-breaking monthly and quarterly sales reported in the month of March. Driven by continued strength in demand for the Ranger, Fiesta, Focus and Kuga, March sales rose 18% year-on-year to 1,049 vehicles, contributing to a first quarter sales total of 2,924 units, 3% up from the corresponding period of 2013.

“Our expanding product lineup in Malaysia is helping the Ford brand appeal to even more customers across the country, and helping drive a steadily increasing flow of traffic to our nationwide network of Ford showrooms,” said David Westerman, managing director, Malaysia and Asia Pacific Emerging Markets, Ford Motor Company.

Key driver of sales continues to be the Ranger, which goes from strength to strength with a 44% year-on-year jump of monthly sales to move 621 units in the month of March. This in turn contributed to the Ranger‘s all-time best quarterly sales total of 1,719 units, up 37% from Q1 2013.

Next biggest sales contributor is the facelifted Ford Fiesta 1.5 Ti-VCT, which sold 239 units in March and 686 units in total for the first quarter of 2014. The Fiesta range is set to be boosted soon by the arrival of the EcoBoost version, which will mark the debut of Ford’s two-time award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine in Malaysia.

Other key contributors to overall sales are the Focus and Kuga; the former, declared as the world’s best-selling nameplate by Polk in 2013, sold 104 units in March and 294 units in Q1 2014. The Kuga, meanwhile, sold 83 units in March and 214 units in the year’s first quarter.
