Toyota IMV models undergo Special Service Campaign
Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) today announced a recall of its IMV platform models, namely the Hilux, Innova, and Fortuner, to rectify possible damage of the spiral cable assemblies installed in these vehicles.
According to Toyota’s release, the said spiral cable connects to the driver’s airbag module, and the electrical connections within can potentially be damaged when the steering wheel is turned. In such an instance, the airbag warning lamp on the instrument panel will illuminate with the airbag module itself possibly being deactivated, thus preventing it from deploying in the unfortunate circumstance of a crash.
The recall was confirmed for the Malaysian market in a separate statement by UMW Toyota Motor declaring that a combined total 82,457 units of the three models manufactured between 2005 and 2010 sold here are involved in what the company describes as a Special Service Campaign.
UMW Toyota Motor will contact all Hilux, Innova and Fortuner owners involved to carry out the necessary corrective measures at no cost to the customers themselves. The corrective procedure will involve replacement of the spiral cable with one of a newer and improved design.
A separate recall was also issued for units of the previous-generation Yaris that were built between June 2005 and May 2010 concerning to rectify defective driver seat track springs. When asked, UMW Toyota Motor personnel confirmed that units of the Yaris sold in Malaysia are not affected by this problem.
