Maserati sales grow 27.5 pc in Southeast Asia Pacific regions

It’s a very happy centennial at Maserati, as the premium Italian marque reports its best ever sales performance in the Southeast Asia Pacific region to date. The year 2013 saw sales in the region grew by over a quarter at 27.5% from 2012 levels, with sales records busted in all markets except Singapore due to changes in taxation and financing regulations.

The Southeast Asia Pacific (SEAP) region encompasses South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Australia, and New Zealand. Strongest markets in this clutch of countries are Australia and South Korea, with the latter registering a staggering 132.7% growth from 2012 to 2013.

Best selling model in the region was the GranTurismo which accounted for 47.1% of total sales followed closely by the Quattroporte. Currently, the four-door Quattroporte is offered with a choice of two variants – the 410hp S and the 530hp GTS. The two-door range, meanwhile, was boosted in 2013 with two new variants – the GranTurismo MC Stradale and the GranCabrio MC.

Commenting on the new regional benchmark, Umberto Cini, Managing Director Maserati Global Overseas Markets, said, “During the past 12 months Maserati has made a giant leap forward in the development of the SEAP markets. This historic sales record shows that we are on track for our global mission of producing 50,000 cars annually by 2015. To achieve this, we have heavily invested into the development of our latest models and our new state-of-the-art production facility in Grugliasco, Italy.”

By expanding the model line-up as well as its dealer network, Maserati aims to open its brand to a wider range of customers and at least double its sales volume across the SEAP region by 2015. South Korea, the region’s fastest growing market, saw the opening of three new dealerships in Seoul, Bundand and Busan in 2013.

Moving forward, Maserati is looking at the all-new Ghibli, which will be available as the Ghibli and Ghibli S powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 tuned to 330hp and 410hp respectively, to propel 2014 sales numbers to another record-breaking year.
