McLaren slated for official debut in Malaysia
The McLaren brand is set to have an official presence in Malaysia soon, with Sime Darby Auto Britannia having been appointed as the brand’s sole distributor in the country. A new flagship McLaren sales gallery will open later this year in conjunction with global celebrations of McLaren’s golden anniversary.
A picture of four McLaren MP4-12Cs, two coupes and two convertibles, together with a brief release was circulated to the Malaysian motoring press earlier today pre-empting us of the impending launch. We will bring more details relevant to our market as they come in.
Officially identified only as the 12C by McLaren, the MP4-12C is powered by a mid-mounted 3.8-litre twin turbocharged V8 producing 616hp @ 7,500rpm and 600Nm @ 3,000 – 7,000rpm. A seven-speed dual clutch SSG transmission sends power to the rear and the set up is claimed to be good enough to accelerate the 12C from rest to 100kph in 3.3 seconds en route to a 329kph top speed.
The 12C officially went on sale in 2011, coinciding with the end of life of its collaboration with Mercedes-Benz to produce the SLR. It was for a time McLaren’s only model until the more powerful McLaren P1’s introduction. The plug-in hybrid-powered P1, however, is nevertheless limited to a production run of 375 units.
