No recall for Perodua Myvi
It was an interesting weekend for Perodua; the company had hosted its 20th Anniversary Gala Raya Celebrations at its plant in Rawang attended by the Prime Minister, Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Razak. The event was reportedly attended by over 28,000 people and received widespread media coverage, perhaps a little more than what Perodua bargained for.
First, the Prime Minister was quoted by national news agency Bernama as revealing that Perodua will be launching a new model that will be the cheapest in the market. It is no secret that the Viva is due for replacement, and 2014 seems about the right time frame for a replacement model to hit the market.
Another piece of news that got out was a report by The Malaysian Reserve, who splashed the headline ‘New Perodua Myvi may be recalled’ across its front page on its 29 Aug 2013 issue. The report also stated that the Perodua plant had stopped production for three days to rectify a production defect.
Perodua has since immediately followed up with a statement clarifying that there is no recall of the Myvi or any other Perodua models. Whilst production was indeed stopped for three days and company personnel did find that some unspecified portion of the vehicle did not meet specified standards, it was also clarified that the two-day hiatus in production was long-planned to coincide with the Gala Raya event, and suspension of production to correct the said defect was only for one day on Monday, 26 Aug 2013.
Production resumed the following day after successful rectification of the issue.
“We do apologize to our customers if this suspension resulted in a slight delay in delivering the vehicle, but the action we take is to ensure that your experience with us is a pleasant one,” concluded Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh, President and CEO of Perodua in the statement.
