Suprima S Launched – Best Ever Car by Proton by Far
Kuala Lumpur, Saturday, 17 August 2013 – Under the helm of DRB-HICOM, Proton today launched what is agreeably the best ever car built by Proton, by far. Named the Suprima S, the new model is based on the Preve platform and shares the same DNA in terms of engine, transmission and suspension set-up, but comes with a host of improvements and new features that will give any buyer the best bang per buck.
The name Suprima is derived from ‘Supreme’ and the ‘S’ denotes the sporty hatch configuration. Pushing a conservative, but highly usable 138 horses and 205 Nm of torque from Proton’s familiar 1.6 litre turbo-charged engine that is also found in the Exora and Preve, the Suprima is a package that is hard to resist.
Standard equipment includes a 6-airbag package comprising the regular front two supplemented by rear bags and two full cabin-length side curtain airbags. Also standard equipment is ABS, EBA, and ESC (Electronic Stability Control) with TC (Traction control). The Suprima ‘S’ comes with stiffer chassis that incorporates a reinforced safety structure (RESS), and the new model has been awarded a 5-Star rating by ANCAP, reportedly the Australasian New Car Assessment Program, an independent body that provides consumers with transparent advice on vehicle safety through its safety rating program which includes several crash testing protocols.
For families with children, the ISOFIX points in the Suprima ‘S’ will be a blessing.
Handling is of course tuned by Lotus, and if previous Proton models are anything to judge this by, there will be no issues in this department.
In terms of size, the Suprima ‘S’ is a full-sized ‘C’ segment car, and the interior space beats that of a BMW 3-Series or a Mercedes-Benz C Class.
Given the above package, which includes a five year warranty, and many other features that are not listed here, the prices for the Suprima ‘S’ available in two types of trim, are RM76,338 and RM79,988, a value for money package that is hard to beat.
We shall be going on a test drive next week to shake down this new Proton – stay tuned.
