Whilst motorsport fans around the world focused their attention at Le Mans this week, our very own endurance race, the 12-hour Merdeka Millenium Endurance Race which has been held annually since the year 2000 will be receiving a new lease of life as race organizers Sepang International Circuit (SIC) has announced a partnership with Pacific Project Management (PPM) to organize this year’s event.

PPM is formed by group of motorsports professionals and enthusiasts, led by Ian Ross Geekie, Tong Han Wey, and Andrew Tong, all of whom have accumulated considerable levels of experience and success in the Malaysian motorsport scene. Mr Geekie had in fact raced in the very first edition of the MME race, and with his friends, they are seeking to recreate the greater levels of enthusiasm and atmosphere that Geekie remembers from those early races.

This year’s race will flag off at midnight, which is unique in the world of endurance racing. After struggling through the first half of the race with night time dark visibility, teams then have to grapple with the searing heat which Sepang is famous for when dawn breaks. These tough conditions makes the MME one of the toughest endurance races in the world.

New categories and a revised qualifying format are amongst changes to the regulations that the organizers are hoping will improve the race’s appeal to fans, and a large number of top class support races are being promised to create a first rate motorsport spectacle. PPM aims to thrill motorsports fans with a good even this year to build a platform to deliver even better editions of the MME in the years to come.
