Mitsubishi Triton Heavy Duty launched for use as tough workhorse
Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) has officially launched the new Triton Heavy Duty (2.8-litre diesel 4×4 Double Cab) exclusively for commercial registration. Built for extremely harsh use, the Triton Heavy Duty comes standard with mud-terrain tyres and its engine is tuned to accept low grade fuel commonly available in remote areas.
Like the also-utilitarian Triton Single Cab launched recently, the Triton Heavy Duty is powered by a naturally aspirated 2.8-litre diesel engine with indirect injection. Paired to a 5-speed manual transmission, the Triton Heavy Duty has access to 96hp @ 4,000rpm and 198Nm @ 2,000rpm.
Geared for severe off-road usage, the Triton Heavy Duty’s chassis is enhanced with gas-type heavy duty shock absorbers. Its offroading traction is provided by Mitsubishi’s Easy Select 4WD system which facilitates ‘shift on the fly’ operation at speeds up to 100kph. In tight spaces, its turning radius is measured at 5.9m.
Equipment levels are kept at the bare minimum, with items deemed worth highlighting by Mitsubishi including Anti-Intrusion brake pedal, collapsible steering as well as Mitsubishi Motors’ rigid RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) body structure.
The Triton Heavy Duty is available only for commercial registration, and it is priced at RM74,829.36 with insurance in Peninsula Malaysia. In Sabah and Sarawak, it is priced at RM75,509.03 and RM75,475.03 respectively. Owners get to enjoy a 3-year/100,000 km warranty as well as Mitsubishi’s 2-Years free maintenance package.
