Lower, Lighter, More Agile Cayman

Kuala Lumpur. Sime Darby Auto Performance (SDAP), the official importer of Porsche vehicles in Malaysia, officially launched the new Cayman and Cayman S on 14 May 2013 at a launch event in Kuala Lumpur.

First premiered at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2012, the third generation of the Cayman has been completely redeveloped. It is lower and longer, lighter and faster, more efficient and more powerful than ever. A longer wheelbase, wider track, and larger wheels enhance the driving performance of the mid-engine sports car to a level without equal in its competitive class. The new two-seater is the third sports car mod el line from Porsche, after the 911 Carrera and Boxtser, to feature innovative lightweight body design.

“The new third-generation Cayman was developed in accordance with the code of the curve. The result is a mid-engine concept with a low centre of gravity in the centre of the car, producing exceptional agility and cornering dynamics. The new Cayman models also adds on to Porsche’s exciting product line-up for 2013 and we are eager to see more Porsche cars on the road in Malaysia,” said Arnt Bayer, Chief Executive Officer of SDAP.

During the launch event, SDAP also took the opportunity to introduce two new additions to the Cayenne range, the new Cayenne S Diesel and the Cayenne Turbo S. With these two new additions, there are a total of eight variants in the Cayenne model range in Malaysia.

The base price of the new Cayman starts from RM 500,000 and the Cayman S from

Base price for the new Cayenne S Diesel starts from RM 750,000 and the Cayenne Turbo S is RM 1,330,000. This includes a 4-year factory warranty and a 4-year complimentary service maintenance package.

About the new Cayman and Cayman S
The new Cayman is up to 30kg lighter thanks to the innovative lightweight body design and also has a fuel efficiency of 7.7 km/l which is up to 15 percent more fuel efficient than the previous model, despite higher engine and driving performance. The new Cayman equipped with a 2.7-litre flat six-cylinder engine produces 275hp and a maximum torque of 290 Nm. It accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 264 km/h, all with Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK).

The new Cayman S is equipped with the 3.4-litre flat six-cylinder engine and it produces 325 hp and a maximum torque of 370 Nm. Its best possible acceleration from a standstill to 100 km/h is 4.7 seconds, when equipped with the Sports Chrono Package (in conjunction with PDK). The Cayman S can reach a top speed of 281 km/h and shows an improved fuel efficiency of 8.0 km/l.

In Malaysia the new standard options for the Cayman models are Tire Pressure monitoring, Bi Xenon Headlights including Porsche Dynamic Lighting system (PDLS), Park Assist for front and rear, Power Steering Plus, and the Sound Package Plus with 9 loudspeakers and 235 Watts total output.

In addition the Cayman S comes with Sport Chrono Package Plus which now also includes the dynamic transmission mount. In combination with the standard option PDK it also offers the “Launch Control” function and motor sport derived shift strategy.
Porsche is also upgrading the Cayman with new optional features. This includes the Adaptive Cruise Contol (ACC) which is now available for the first time. ACC controls the distance to the car ahead in traffic and vehicle speed. A specially-developed Burmester ® High-End Surround Sound System with 12 amplifier channels with a total output of 821 watts and 12 loudspeakers including an active subwoofer integrated in the body shell is also available as an option.

About the new Cayenne S Diesel
The Cayenne S Diesel offers a driving experience that is typical of a Porsche and yet is altogether new. At the heart of the new Cayenne S Diesel is the 4.2-litre turbo diesel engine with an output of
382bhp (281kW) and a maximum torque of 850 Nm. The high torque of 850 Nm is already available at 2,000 rpm. This gives the Cayenne S Diesel an outstanding driving performance especially in day-to-day use. The Cayenne S Diesel can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 5.7 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 252km/h. At the same time the fuel consumption is very low at an impressive 8.3l/100km.

The Cayenne S Diesel is truly a masterful endurance performer. It is emotional like a sports car in its dynamic performance and sound. The smooth running properties and resonant sound of the eight-cylinder engine attain a level comparable to that of previous Porsche V8 engines.

The Cayenne S Diesel gets its very special character from Porsche Traction Management (PTM) active all-wheel drive. This system produces the driving qualities of a rear-wheel drive vehicle – together with all of its benefits in handling and precision. In a sporty, dynamic style of driving, front-wheel drive actions precisely adapted to the driving situation intervene to improve stability and traction. The optional Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) makes this excellent dynamic performance even sportier.

On its exterior, the new top diesel model is an uncompromising Cayenne S as well, and it displays the typical visual features of the eight-cylinder versions. The brake system, for example, has been sized to handle the car’s power output, and it is identified by its silver brake callipers. The black fins at the front end emphasise the open air inlets. As on the Cayenne Diesel, the “diesel” badges at the front ends of the wings call attention to the operating mode of the V8 engine. The model badge at the rear identifies it as a Cayenne S.

About the new Cayenne Turbo S
The new Cayenne Turbo S assumes top position in the Porsche SUV model range with its engine power of 550 hp (405 kW). With its complex active chassis, the top athlete in SUV clothing surpasses the driving performance of many sports cars. All of the basic Cayenne properties such as versatile off-road capabilities, high ride comfort and superior towing power have been preserved without exception. Its NEDC fuel consumption of 11.5 litres per 100 km is the same as that of the Cayenne Turbo, which makes it more fuel-efficient in relation to its engine power. The new Turbo S model has an extra 50 hp of power, compared to the Cayenne Turbo, making it a total as 550 hp, as well as a torque boosted from 700 Nm to 750 Newton metres. The sprint from zero to 100 km/h takes just 4.5 seconds and the SUV accelerates to a top speed of 283 km/h.

The Cayenne Turbo S was systematically configured for maximum dynamic performance. Therefore, it incorporates all relevant control systems as standard equipment. From the Cayenne Turbo it takes the combination of an air suspension and active PASM damping control. Then there is Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), which reduces the roll angle in curves to practically zero, improving agility and comfort equally. Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus), which is also standard, operates with torque vectoring at the rear wheels together with an electronically controlled rear differential lock, which improves traction and therefore offers more agility in every driving situation. The new Cayenne Turbo S is also equipped with the Sport Chrono package as standard.

The exterior and add-on equipment of the Cayenne Turbo S live up to the high standards of a top model. Numerous exterior features such as the air inlet screens, headlight housings and mirror parts are painted in high-gloss black. The standard 21-inch 911 Turbo II wheels with coloured Porsche badges were exclusively designed for the Cayenne Turbo S; their inside surfaces are painted in high-gloss black.
