Volkswagen Beetle 2.0 TSI now officially available for sale
Having successfully launched the all-new Beetle 1.2 TSI at the Volkswagen Das Auto Show 2012 in September, Volkswagen Group Malaysia has followed up on its promise on launching the more powerful 2.0 TSI version this week. Offered in a more distinctive ‘Sport Line’ package, the Beetle 2.0 TSI is priced at RM219,888 before on-road costs.
Powering it is the 1,984cc EA888 turbocharged direct injection engine producing 197hp @ 5,100rpm and 280Nm @ 1,700 – 5,000. This, some of you might recall, are the same outputs quoted for the Sharan, but just slightly short of the Mk VI Golf GTI. Like the Sharan and Golf GTI, the Beetle 2.0 TSI gets Volkswagen’s 6-speed wet clutch DSG as its standard transmission.
Quoted performance figures list 7.5 seconds as the time needed to complete the century sprint, and maximum speed is rated at 223kph. Official fuel consumption is 7.7 l/100km on the combined cycle, and carbon dioxide emission is measured at 179 g/km.
In addition to its added performance, the 2.0 TSI model’s RM80,000 premium against the 1.2 TSI also buys, among other things, multi-link rear suspension, 18-inch alloy wheels, panoramic sunroof, bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, sports suspension, electronic differential lock (XDS), and red-painted brake calipers.
The car is available in Tornado Red, Saturn Yellow, Reflex Silver, Deep Black, Reef Blue and Oryx White.
