Limited MINI Design Edition models launched
One significant aspect of MINI’s appeal is that in addition to its expertly crafted chic factor, the cars are also highly customizable, giving buyers plenty of options to personalize their brand new MINI vehicles before even leaving the showroom. In Malaysia, the brand has just report double-digit year-on-year sales growth for the first half of 2012, with 171 units sold, compared to 138 units in the corresponding period of 2011.
Building on that appeal, MINI Malaysia has just launched two new limited edition models of the MINI, namely the MINI Cooper Baker Street and MINI Cooper S Bayswater at the MINI Adrenaline Auto Bavaria Roadshow at One Utama Shopping Centre.
Introducing the new MINI Design Edition, Dr. Gerhard Pils, President of BMW Group Malaysia said, “The MINI brand has always been synonymous with excitement and being unconventional. The new MINI Design Edition is no different. The cars are equipped to be unique and they are meant for customers who are not only looking for something different in cars but also something special in their MINIs.”
First of the two models is the MINI Cooper Baker Street, which is trimmed based on an Urban Culture theme. Design touches unique to this model include a choice of three exclusive colours, namely Rooftop Grey, Pepper White and Midnight Black, all matched with black roofing. Special MINI Baker Street labels at the bonnet stripes, mirror caps and front wings mark out this model’s credentials, and at the four corners are 16-inch aluminium 6-Star Twin-Spoke rims painted in Nightfever Black.
As per the standard MINI Cooper, the Baker Street is powered by the naturally-aspirated 1.6-litre Prince engine producing 120hp and 160Nm paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Claimed performance figures say 10.4 seconds to complete the century sprint, with 6.7 litres of fuel consumed per 100km, and 156g of CO2 from the tailpipe per kilometre traveled.
Meanwhile, the MINI Cooper S Bayswater embraces a motorsport-inspired styling theme. It is also available with a choice of three colours – Kite Blue Metallic, Eclipse Grey Metallic, and Midnight Black Metallic. Its bonnet is striped, and its model name is stamped on the front wings. Wheels used for this model measure 17 inches in diameter, featuring the Sanblast Turned design in Jet Black colour.
Inside, the sporty interior is lined in Punch Rocklike Anthracite leather, contrast-stitched in blue or brown. Surfaces are topped with a sleek Piano Black MINI Bayswater finish. The seat badges and door sill finishers are lined with ‘MINI Bayswater’ lettering to further highlight its status as a special model.
Upfront, the Bayswater edition features the 1.6-litre Prince engine in its twin-scroll turbocharged format as per the Cooper S model. This award winning engine makes 184hp and 240Nm, sufficient to propel the vehicle to a 7.2-second century sprint. Fuel consumption is rated at 6.7 l/100km, with CO2 emissions at 155 g/km.
The MINI Design Edition cars are on display at the MINI Adrenaline Auto Bavaria Roadshow at One Utama Shopping Centre from Wednesday 11th July 2012 to Sunday, 15th July 2012. The retail price (on the road for personal registration, without insurance, with the MINI Tender Loving Care service package) for the new MINI Cooper Baker Street is RM198,888 and the new MINI Cooper S Bayswater is RM248,888.
