Five Malaysians in final of Global Ford Ranger Challenge
Ford Malaysia has announced the five finalists chosen to test the all-new Ford Ranger T6 to its limits in the Global Ford Ranger Challenge. The said finalists have completed their respective tasks, and videos of them doing so, shot by a film crew hired by Ford, are now available for viewing online at the official Malaysia Global Ford Ranger Challenge website and the Ford Malaysia Facebook page.
A voting mechanism is in place from today until 22 June 2012 for members of the public to vote for their favourite challenges. Voters stand a chance to win Casio G-Shock watches and other Global Ford Ranger Challenge merchandise. After tabulating results of the vote and taking the final decision of the competition’s judges the winners will be announced during the Ranger’s official launch in Malaysia.
From a field of 300 entries, the five selected finalists are Zolkaplie Mustafa, Peter Charles, Denny Lim, Wong Kok Wei, and Peter Choy. They will be competing for the Grand Prize of an all-new Ford Ranger 2.2 XLT (manual). First runner-up will receive RM9,888 and a voucher worth RM10,000 to purchase the new Ranger. The second runner-up receives RM3,888 in cash, and a voucher of RM5,000 to buy the new Ranger. All three winners will also be going home with Global Ford Ranger Challenge merchandise.
Horticulturist Zolkaplie took the Ranger to trap wild animals in Putrajaya and relocate them to the Hulu Langat forest reserve in his entry titled ‘Saviour of the Jungle’. Utility engineer Peter loaded the truck with 700kg of palm oil and traversed 30km of off-road terrain from Pitas to Paitan in his entry titled ‘Power Loader of Pitas’.
Admin officer Denny also took the Ranger off road. His ‘Sarawakian Terrain Warrior’ test subjects the Ranger to a five-hour expedition from Betong, Kuching to Kampung Tuba with off-roading, river-crossing and hill climing all in the agenda. IT technician Wong Kok Wei’s ‘Planet Earth’s New Hero’ challenge sees him transport and relocate various trees from his nursery to be planted in specific locations while negotiating tight spots. Finally, Choy, the ‘Ultimate Explorer’ intends to challenge the Ranger’s toughness in an excursion to a remote Orang Asli settlement in Pos Piah, Perak, which can only be reached with a 4×4 vehicle.
The all-new Ranger T6 is scheduled for launch in the next couple of months, and will be equipped with a wide range of creature comforts, many of them new to the pick-up truck segment. Among gadgets to look forward to include Bluetooth Voice Control system, cruise control, theatre-dimming, rain-sensing wipers, auto defrosting, and electrochromatic rear view mirror.
According to Ford, the Ranger utilizes a common global electrical architecture that is also shared by the Focus and Mondeo. This allows Ford engineers to easily integrate new features and technologies in the Ranger in future facelifts or running changes.
