Facelifted Audi A4 open for bookings
Euromobil has announced that the facelifted 2012 Audi A4 is officially open for booking and available for delivery immediately. Two turbocharged variants are available as before, and they are offered at unchanged prices – the 1.8 TFSI at RM235,000 and the 2.0 TFSI quattro at RM309,800, both prices quoted on-the-road excluding insurance.
Visually, the new A4 features a new bumper with reworked air inlets and fog lights, with the signature trapezoidal grille featuring minutely altered details such as tapered upper edges and redesigned cross ribs. The headlights has also been reworked, with the LED daytime running lights worked into a distinctive look. At the rear, the tail lights has similarly been reworked, and the bumper’s diffuser element redesigned.
The interior has also been reworked, and there is now a new selection of steering wheels featuring chrome, high-gloss inserts, and even the option of a sporty flat-bottomed wheel. The MMI navigation system’s interface now has four instead of eight buttons, with a script function integrated to the volume dial. Interior trim options include Nappa leather and various dash inlays such as Aluminium Trigon, walnut dark brown, and several others.
In the engine room, the top spec 2.0 TFSI carries on with the original 211hp turbocharged four-cylinder unit mated with a 7-speed S-tronic dual clutch transmission and quattro all-wheel drive. Featuring a self-locking centre diff, the A4’s quattro system operates at a default 40:60 front-rear torque distribution, though that split is suitably altered according to driving conditions. Auto start-stop technology has been incorporated to the engine for this facelift.
The entry-level 1.8 TFSI model gets an updated engine, with outputs increased from the previous 160hp and 250Nm to a more substantial 170hp and 320Nm. Like the 2.0, it also features auto start-stop as standard, and along with it, Audi has bundled in a new thermal management system and also shaved some 3.5kg of engine weight from the predecessor. As a result, carbon dioxide emissions have been slashed 21% – 169 g/km to 134 g/km. The A4 1.8 TFSI is front-driven and utilizes the Multitronic CVT with eight virtual ratios.
This being a facelift exercise, alterations to the chassis are minor. Minor tweaks have been made to the suspension system, and the steering rack is now electrically assisted. Driving characteristics of the vehicle can be altered using the four-mode Audi Drive Select system. A fifth ‘Individual’ mode is included for units opted with onboard navigation.
There is a selection of 15 paint finishes, including four new tones. Buyers with sportier tastes can plonk an additional RM25,000 on their new A4 for the S-line package which brings about bigger rims, bodykit and enhanced interior touches.
