BMW Concept M135i to break cover in Geneva
You would think that having a whole range of M Performance Automobiles and the all-new M6 to show is more than sufficient for one motor show, international or not. Apparently, however the folks in BMW M GmbH didn’t think so, as there will be yet another Geneva debutant in their corner of the show to accompany the M550d, X5 M50d, X6 M50d, and M6.
The model in question is the Concept M135i, and despite the ‘Concept’ nomenclature, it undoubtedly is an almost production-ready showcase of a new hot variant of the 1 Series hatch. Power comes from a turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six making north of 300hp. Despite similar ingredients, it should be noted that this model is unrelated to the 1 Series M Coupe, which is built on the previous generation 1-er.
When it debuts, the M135i will be marketed under the M Performance Automobiles umbrella which is being launched with a range of diesel-powered monsters. Unlike its oil-burning relatives, however, the M135i will be rear driven. Typical M division touches include uprated brakes, suspension, alloy rims, and body kit.
World premiere of the BMW Concept M135i will take place at the Geneva Motor Show on Tuesday, 6 March at 1700 within the framework of the BMW DTM presentation. On the second media day (Wednesday, 7th March), the vehicle will be showcased all day at the BMW stand.
