Ford sales surge in 2011
Ford has announced an extra-ordinary year of sales in 2011, recording a 145% jump from 2010 to close the year at 7,188 vehicles, representing the company’s best performance in the country since 1997.
“This is an outstanding achievement for both Ford and our partner Sime Darby AutoConnexion, and highlights the unmatched commitment we have to our business and our customers in Malaysia,” said David Westerman, Regional Manager, Asia Pacific, Ford Export & Growth Operations.
Leading the way in Ford’s resurgence is the Fiesta, selling 4,297 units in its first full calendar year in the Malaysian market. The next best seller is the Ranger, which recorded a 17% increase to register a total of 2,274 sales, an impressive achievement for a model due for to be replaced soon by an eagerly anticipated successor.
Among other models, sales of the Focus, also due for replacement this year, increased by 58% to 263 units. No figures were provided for the newly facelifted Mondeo EcoBoost and all-new S-Max EcoBoost. The Mondeo was recently crowned Best Mid-Sized Passenger Car in the Shell V-Power Autoworld Car of the Year Awards 2011.
Hinting at what to expect in 2012, Westerman said, “We continued to make significant progress on our One Ford plan throughout 2011, and Malaysian customers are responding to the Ford brand in very positive ways. We believe that 2012 is going to be an even more exciting year for Ford in Malaysia with the introduction of the All-New Ranger and other segment defining products.”
