Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia has introduced an updated version of its Pajero flagship SUV lined with cosmetic touches and improved equipment. Priced at RM298,980 with insurance, the Pajero is now RM9,000 costlier, but that may not be obvious at first glance of the price tag which used to read RM289,980.

Upgrades start on the outside, and buyers can look forward to a redesigned grille and bumper up front followed with new skid plates, roof rails and 18″ alloy wheels down its flanks. Moving inside, the driver is greeted with a dashboard trimmed with plush leather and instruments that light up in red illumination.

Reverse cameras are essential items in modern day big SUVs Mitsubishi was not negligent in this respect. The Pajero’s rear view camera sends images to a monitor incorporated into the rear view mirror. Another notable safety feature is the brake override system, which cuts power in the instances where the accelerator and brake pedals are simultaneously depressed – so, no left foot braking, people.

The Pajero is powered by Mitsubishi’s 3.8-litre single cam V6 MIVEC engine rated at 247hp @ 6,000rpm and 329Nm @ 2,750rpm. Power is distributed to all corners by an INVECS-II 5-speed automatic transmission, and kept in check by the All Wheel Control (AWC) system which incorporates Active Stability and Traction Control (ASTC).

Positioned as an SUV with luxury aspirations, the Pajero comes with equipment such as a Rockford premium sound system, electric seats, auto climate control, rear air-con with independent control, sunroof, cruise control, keyless entry, auto HID headlamps with self-leveling, and auto wipers. In the event of a collision, occupants are protected by front, side, and curtain airbags.

Fully imported from Japan, the Pajero is available in four colours – Warm White Mica, Black Mica, Cool Silver Metallic and Quartz Brown Metallic. Owners get to enjoy a 3-year/100,000 km warranty as well as a 2-year/40,000 km free maintenance for an added peace of mind.
