All-new Honda CR-V debuts in LA
The all-new fourth-generation Honda CR-V has made its world debut at the ongoing Los Angeles Auto Show, with the US set to be its first recipient in mid-December. Three trim levels have been announced for American consumers, each with the option of FWD or AWD drivetrains.
Other engines should follow in due time, but the only powertrain announced at the moment is a 2.4-litre i-VTEC paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission. Outputs are rated at 185hp and 221Nm, with combined fuel consumption based on 2012 EPA standards measured at 9.0 and 9.4 l/100km for FWD and AWD respectively.
Recent products from Korea have exposed the stinginess of Japanese manufacturers, so it was both natural and imperative that Honda specced the CR-V more generously. Standard kit count in Stateside models include Easy Fold-Down 60/40 Split Rear Seats, Bluetooth connectivity, full colour multi-info display, Pandora® Internet Radio interface, and SMS audio read-out for compatible phones.
Honda will gradually introduce the new CR-V to other markets worldwide in 2012. The recent floods in Ayutthaya which forced the shutdown of Honda’s plant in Thailand is likely to have disrupted the model’s plans for the ASEAN market, so we are not expecting its arrival until the end of 2012 at the earliest.
