Action-packed F1 weekend concludes

The Malaysian F1 GP held at the Sepang International Circuit last weekend concluded with Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing taking the chequered flag, finishing ahead of McLaren’s Jenson Button and Lotus Renault’s Nick Heidfeld in second and third respectively.

It was an action-packed week leading to the race yesterday. Proton got the ball rolling early in the week by throwing a challenge to the Malaysian media to take on Jean Alesi in a friendly go-kart race. The 46-year-old former Ferrari driver, who is now Lotus’ brand ambassador, held off strong challenges from Zerotohundred.com’s Tom and BH Auto’s Durrani to finish the race first and keep his pride intact. A couple of days later, Alesi accompanied members of the Lotus Renault GP team, led by Eric Boullier to a tour of Proton’s factory in Shah Alam.

The joy of F1 fever was also extended to some 130 orphans and school children, who were brought on a tour to the SIC on free practice day on Proton’s initiatives. The children, from Pertubuhan Kebajikan Yayasan Anak Yatim Piatu Darul Aitam (Busarah) in Temoh, Perak; Rumah Bakti Nur Syaheera in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur; Sekolah Sultan Alam Shah, Putrajaya; and SK Tanjung Malim, Perak even had the opportunity to meet LRGP drivers Heidfeld, Vitaly Petrov, and Bruno Senna.
