Chinese and Aussie teams top Scania technicians’ challenge

Having hosted the Scania Driver Competitions (Malaysia/Singapore) 2011 finals two weeks earlier, the headquarters of Scania Malaysia Shah Alam once again played host to another Scania-hosted tournament, this time the Asia Pacific regional finals for Scania Top Team 2011.

A total of ten teams, which which included Malaysia, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan, Indonesia, Korea, China, Australia and New Zealand, competed for the right to represent the region in the upcoming global finals to be held in Södertälje, Sweden in October 2011. Emerging triumphant were the teams from China and Australia, who will be competing for the €50,000 grand prize on offer.

“We set up Top Team to encourage our service personnel to strive for excellence and to help them build their knowledge of Scania’s products and working tools. However, it is also about putting the spotlight on the people behind-the-scenes who diligently work in the workshops to provide exceptional levels of service of our customers,” said Jan Gustavsson, Project Manager for Scania Top Team Academy.

“All the participating teams showed exceptional teamwork, technical competency and knowledge of Scania parts which impressed our judges. It was very inspiring to watch them work through such challenging tasks,” Gustavsson added.

“I am really proud that my team has won this prestigious title. It was a tough competition with immense pressure, but we are glad that our combined team discipline, technical skills and unrelenting spirit brought us through the challenges,” said Zhang Liang, team leader representing China.

“I believe teamwork and our sheer determination led us to victory. The team has put in many hours of training and they have really developed their expertise and teamwork throughout the different stages of the competition. We will continue to do our best in the world final competition,” said Steve Shawe, coach for Australia team, after the official results were announced.
