NSW to increase tolerance of speed cameras
The Australian state of New South Wales recently swore-in a newly elected state government, and one of the first order of business by its new Deputy Premier, Mr Andrew Stoner, was to overturn a decision by its predecessor government to impose a zero-tolerance policy on speed cameras.
What does zero-tolerance here mean? In simple terms, if you exceed the speed limit even by one click, you get fined. There is no room for speedo error or even the camera calibration error. If you do 91kph in a 90 zone, you’ll get that ticket mailed to your post box, and that isn’t funny.
A leak of government reports just days before the state election revealed that the system has a tolerance of 3kph, which the previous government had planned to scrap. Under Stoner’s direction, not only has that decision been reversed, but the NSW state government has in fact increased that tolerance, though the exact figure is undisclosed.
Well done, Mr Stoner.
