Honda Accord facelift launched for Malaysian market

The much-awaited mid-life update of the 8th generation Honda Accord is here, with Honda Malaysia having announced the model’s arrival on our shores today. Featuring enhanced aesthetics and features, the new Accord hits the road with a the same three-variant line-up at unchanged prices.

As such, consumers continue to pick between the 2.0 VTi at RM142,800 with insurance, 2.0 VTi-L at RM149,800 and 2.4 VTi-L at RM172,800. There is no 3.5 V6 available this time; the CBU variant was already discontinued sometime ago due to poor demand.

Having been in the market for nearly three years, the Accord continues to enjoy a high-level of popularity with Malaysian buyers, but increasingly tough competition from the Toyota Camry, Hyundai Sonata and Nissan Teana means this latest update could not have come soon enough.

Cosmetic changes are minor, and take a keen eye to spot. Up front, you get a touched up bumper and grille, while the taillights are now defined by a chrome ‘eye-liner’. The 2.0-litre models continue with the same 16″ alloys as before, but the 2.4 VTi-L gets a new 17″ twin-spoke design. Real eagle eyes will probably spot front corner sensors as well, now made standard for all variants.

Inside, the Accord continues to use the good old key-operated ignition, although the key itself is a new jack-knife type key. All variants now get leather wrapping on their steering wheel and gear knob. Previously, only the 2.4 had leather on its steering and only the 2.0 VTi-L and above received the leather gear knob. Variable intermittent wipers, previously available only for the 2.4 as well, is now standard across the board.

In the aspect of safety, standard gear are dual frontal airbags, ABS, active headrests, seat belt pre-tensioners, and immobilizer. As before, the 2.4 adds VSA and side airbags. For added security, Honda Malaysia offers the Honda Connex SVR vehicle recovery system for RM3,660, which includes one year’s subscription fee.

Buyers looking to customize their Accord have a couple of accessory packages to enhance the appearance of their cars. Package Alpha offers all-round skirtings with a trunk lip at RM5,100, while Package Beta gets you a new front grille and lower garnishes on the front, rear and doors for RM2,100.

The Accord facelift is offered in five colours – Taffeta White, Alabaster Silver Metallic, Polished Metal Metallic, Crystal Black Pearl, and the all-new Celestial Blue Metallic.

In conjunction with the new Accord’s launch, Honda Malaysia is embarking on a nationwide photography exhibition tour entitled The Journey of Ambition, aimed to showcase the Accord’s legacy driven by Honda’s ‘engineering spirit and boundless ambitions’ at the following locations:

  • Queensbay Mall, Penang (13 – 17 April)
  • One Utama Shopping Centre, Petaling Jaya (20 – 24 April)
  • Empire Gallery, Subang (25 – 29 May)
  • Tebrau City in Johor Bahru (21 – 26 June)
