Chevrolet Orlando set for Malaysia
Having launched the Cruze 8 months ago, local Chevrolet distributors Naza Quest Sdn Bhd, is set to follow up on its efforts in building the Chevrolet brand with the Orlando MPV, due to arrive in Malaysia in the second half of 2011. Based on running gear from the Cruze, the Orlando was unveiled globally at last year’s Paris Motor Show, with sales in Europe just about to commence.
“The consumer response to the introduction of the Chevrolet Cruze last year has given us tremendous confidence that the Malaysian market is well ready to welcome the Chevrolet Orlando – which was built upon the Cruze platform. With its versatility and unique crossover qualities, we have no doubt that this will be the new MPV of choice for discerning, family-oriented customers,” stated Datuk’ Wira Hj. SM Faisal SM Nasimuddin, Joint Group Executive Chairman of NAZA Group of Companies.
During its launch in Paris, Chevrolet announced three engine options for the Orlando. Our expectations are for the 141hp 1.8-litre petrol lump from the Cruze to be the sole engine offering in Malaysia. Of course, Chevrolet is most welcomed to surprise us with the 2.0-litre turbodiesel motor rated at either 131hp or 163hp.
It was recently announced that Canada-bound Orlandos will be powered by a 2.4-litre petrol direct injection engine, but we won’t be putting our chips down for that version to arrive either.
