BMW Group Malaysia is title sponsor of tennis Malaysian Open 2011

BMW Group Malaysia has just announced that it will be assuming the role of title sponsor for the 2nd Malaysian Open of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) tour. Now named the BMW Malaysian Open 2011, the tournament will play from 28 February to 6 March 2011 at the Bukit Kiara Equestrian and Country Club Resort. The tournament will see 32 single players and 16 doubles teams competing in a knockout competition for their share of a US$ 220k prize purse.

Announcing BMW Group Malaysia’s partnership with the event, Managing Director Mr Geoffrey Briscoe said, “BMW is proud to be the title sponsor of the 2011 Malaysian Open, a tennis competition held here in Malaysia which is truly world class. We understand that tennis is a popular sport worldwide and we are committed to increasing the awareness and passion for the game here in Malaysia.”

Last year’s inaugural edition of the Malaysian Open was held at the same venue in Bukit Kiara, Russian Alisa Kleybanova beating top seed Elena Dementiava in the final. This year, the tournament will once again invite professionals of the WTA Tour including some from the list of world top 20 players. As host country, Malaysia will also be able to send in two wild card entries into the tournament for the local crowd to cheer.
