160 Proton vehicles to serve as Official Cars of Le Tour de Langkawi 2011

Proton Holdings Bhd confirmed its continuous support to the Le Tour de Langkawi cycling tournament by pledging 160 of its company fleet cars for use in the 2011 edition of the event. The announcement was made in a small ceremony held at Proton’s Centre of Excellence headquarters where a mock-key and Blue Jersey ceremony also took place.

Present at the ceremony were CEO of Proton Edar Sdn Bhd En Mohamad Shukor Ibrahim and CEO of Le Tour de Langkawi 2011 En Mohamed bin Salleh representing their respective organizations in an exchange of memento of sorts. En Mohamad Shukor presented a mock key to En Mohamed Salleh, who in turn presented back a blue jersey to En Mohamad Shukor. Proton will be given the honour of presenting the Blue Jersey to ‘Sprint’ category winners at various stages of the race.

According to En Mohamad Shukor, the 160 cars loaned to Le Tour de Langkawi are selected from the company’s pool of fleet cars, all not more than three years of age. The cars will be used by race officers, team managers, organizing committee members and the Cavalcade Convoy procession throughout the race. Proton will also be sending 50 members of its staff to provide technical assistance should any be needed.

Now in its 16th edition, the Le Tour de Langkawi 2011 will run through 10 stages across the country from 23 January to 1 February 2011.
