UMW Toyota Motor’s long-running charity concert, the Toyota Classics, recently concluded its 20th show, raising funds to the benefit of the National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM), Pertubuhan Kanak-kanak Insan Istimewa Cemerlang (PKIIC), Rumah Kanak-Kanak Bondulu Gereja Katolik Toboh, Tambunan, and Sarawak Cheshire Home.

Featuring the performance of Citta di Firenze, this year’s edition managed to raise a total of RM343,918 in proceeds. Out of that sum, RM100,000 went to NCSM, and RM91,000 went to PKIIC, with the other two homes sharing the rest. A cheque presentation ceremony was held last week for these organizations to receive the donations.

NCSM provides an extensive range of cancer-related services to the public, from treatment and support to creating awareness. With the money received from this concert, NCSM will purchase a new 9-seater van for its volunteer staff to travel to smaller urban and rural committees in their cancer awareness drives.

Meanwhile, PKIIC is a home for underprivileged children. Children at the home are provided with education and taught the necessary survival skills to negotiate their way in society. PKIIC will use their allocation of the proceeds for refurbishment of its hostel and to build a new mini hall.

This latest edition of the Toyota Classics concert adds to a lengthy tally of RM6 million collected over a period of 20 years to benefit 47 different charity and non-governmental organizations throughout the country.
