BMW Malaysia adds 528i to F10 5 Series range

The RM200,000 gap between the 523i and 535i in the F10 5 Series has been plugged with the introduction of the 528i to assume the mid-range model role. At RM449,800 on-the-road excluding insurance, the 528i sits closer to the 523i than the 535i, though it is priced almost on-par with the Mercedes E-Class flagship, the E 300 Avantgarde.

“The BMW 5 Series has always played an iconic role in the history and success of the BMW Group here in Malaysia as well as throughout the world. With the new BMW 528i, we introduce yet another strong contender to our successful breadth of product offering for the BMW 5 Series as well as to the Malaysiam automotive premiun segment.” said Mr. Geoffrey Briscoe, Managing Director, BMW Group Malaysia.

Powering the 528i is the 3.0-litre naturally aspirated straight-six engine shared with the 730Li. Featuring Valvetronic and Double VANOS, the magnesium block N52B30 engine is good for 258hp @ 6,600rpm and 310Nm @ 2,600 – 3,000rpm. Paired to the engine is the 8-speed automatic transmission which is standard across the 5 Series range. BMW claims that this powertrain combo is good enough to propel the 528i to 100kph from standstill in 6.7 seconds while only consuming an average of 8 l/100 km of petrol and emitting only 187 grams of CO2 per kilometre.

Standard equipment on the locally-assembled 528i include 18″ alloys, iDrive with 10.2″ LCD screen, Integral Active Steering, Dynamic Driving Control, and Brake Energy Regeneration. It is also equipped with some pretty nifty communication technologies, with BMWConnectedDrive goodies including a Heads-Up Display and Navigation System Professional thrown in. For emergency moments, BMW Telematics Platform Accessory (TPA) which includes Vehicle Recovery System as well as other BMW Assist remote services is available as an option.

“There is no doubt that the new BMW 5 Series is the most advanced car in its segment. Aside from walking away with a Red Dot Design Award earlier this year, the car is also the first BMW to not only receive the maximum five star rating but also a 100 percent score in the reputed Euro NCAP crash test. We at BMW Group Malaysia are confident that the new BMW 528i will be one of our key product offerings which will drive our performance for the remainder of the year 2010,” said Briscoe.
