Goodyear and JKJR Ensures Safety of Motorists this Festive Season
Official Press Release from Goodyear Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur, 7 September 2010 – In an effort to reduce the number of road accidents this Hari Raya, Goodyear distributed road safety flyers to motorists who are traveling back home this festive season. These flyers contain safety and tire care tips which motorists can perform, such as the 10-point tire check – which evaluates, for example, the car’s tire pressure and wear, brake pads or fluid, as well as battery terminal connection and water.
The Road Safety Campaign took place yesterday at the Sg Besi Toll Plaza where representatives from the Jabatan Keselamatan Jalan Raya (JKJR) handed out flyers and reminded motorists to make sure that their vehicles and tires are in good working condition before traveling.
Also present was a Goodyear representative who demonstrated the use of a 20 sen coin to check the depth of a tire’s tread pattern — if the word “sen” is visible, the tire requires changing.
“At Goodyear, we are committed to educating the public on the importance of vehicle maintenance and tire safety. This synergistic partnership with JKJR allows us to create awareness amongst the public and in turn, plays a role in reducing the number of traffic accidents this festive season,” said Nasution Abdul Rahman, Managing Director of Goodyear Malaysia.
The numbers of death tolls in Kuala Lumpur caused by road accidents were 230 in 2009. This is an alarming number which can be dealt with proper education. And to further drive awareness and educate the public on road safety, Goodyear will be supporting the efforts of Majlis Keselamatan Jalan Raya (MKJR) in organizing a 2.5 kilometer walkathon called “Walk for Life 2010” programme on 16 October at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur, which will see some 1,000 participants.
