New Ford Ranger variants introduced
Sime Darby Auto Connexion, official distributor of Ford vehicles for the Malaysian market, has announced the addition of two new variants into the Ford Ranger line-up. Added alongside the existing XL, XLT(M/T), and XLT(A/T) variants are the Double Cab 4×2 Low Rider and Single Cab 4×4 models.
Both variants come with the 2.5-litre Duratorq turbodiesel engine offered in the same state of tune as the Ranger XL. Compatible with biofuel (Methyl Ester 5%), the engine’s output is rated at 109hp @ 3,500rpm and 257Nm @ 2,000rpm. Built to cater for business operators as workhorses, both feature 5-speed manual transmissions as standard.
“These new Ranger variants are targeted at fleet customers, small & medium enterprises and private owner operators. With its tough exterior, affordable price tag, more power and economical fuel consumption, the Ranger 4×2 Low Rider and Ranger Single Cab are seen as attractive options for fleet owners,” said Simon Rock, Sime Darby Motors Sdn Bhd Managing Director for Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore.
“The Ford Ranger line-up has received healthy interest among Malaysian motorists especially for its off road capabilities and we have no doubt that these two new variants will be well received as it appeals to a slightly different group of customers,” Rock added.
Underpinnings of the Ranger are more rugged than sophisticated, with a tough ladder frame holding double wishbone suspension up front and leaf springs behind. Steering utilizes the more robust ball & nut setup, while a Limited Slip Differential (LSD) is standard on both models.
The Ranger Single Cab features a 1.54m3 load space and boasts a towing capacity of 3,000kg. The single cab has a lower towing capacity of 2,000kg.
The Ford Ranger Double Cab TDi 4X2 XL comes with an introductory price of RM 59,888 while the Ford Ranger Single Cab TDi 4X4 is priced at RM 62,888. Prices quoted are excluding registration, insurance, road tax and for Peninsula Malaysia only. As part of its introductory promotion, Sime Darby Auto Connexion is providing a free bed liner for both variants. Both models are available for viewing at Ford showrooms nationwide from today onwards.
