Avid Malaysian bikers will now have another choice in the high performance motorcycle market with the Ducati Multistrada 1200 now joining a formidable lineup which already includes the GT1000, Monster S4RS, Hypermotard and 1198.

Two variants of the Multistrada are available – the base 1200 and the higher-spec 1200S. At the touch of a button, its rider is said to be able to transform the Multistrada into anyone of a sport, touring, urban or enduro bike. On-board electronics adjust the engine’s power and torque delivery, suspension settings and traction control to appropriately modify the bike’s character as per the rider’s demand.

Sitting under the rider is a de-tuned, but no less mean version of the 1198’s L-Twin Desmodromic motor, which in this guise produces 150hp @ 9,250rpm. Maximum torque of 118.7Nm is produced at 7,500rpm. Ducati prescribes an impressive 24,000km service interval for the engine.

Anti-lock braking system is offered as an option on the Multistrada, although the higher end 1200S gets it standard along with a set of electronically adjustable suspension by Ohlins. Customers can order the 1200S in either ‘Sport edition’ or ‘Touring edition’, which sees equipment levels appropriately adjusted to suit those respective needs.
