Perodua announces faster Alza delivery

In response to strong demand of the Alza, Perodua today released a press statement announcing that its highly-popular MPV will have production ramped up and delivery period shortened from two months to three weeks.

“We managed to reduce the waiting period to 3 weeks currently from 2 months in February by ramping up production recently,” Perodua managing director En Aminar Rashid Salleh said.

At current production rates, Perodua has thus far managed to deliver 20,000 units out of 30,500 bookings received since the MPV was launched in November 2009. The company’s current monthly sales target for the Alza is set at 4,000 units per month.

Speaking on the company’s recent sales performance, En Aminar said, “Our car sales in April totalled some 15,900 units or 33.9% market share (based on Perodua’s Total Industry Volume estimate of 47,000 units) beating our target of 15,500 units,”

Aminar’s claimed figures represents an increase in market share from the 32.9% chalked up in March 2010, despite actually selling more cars in the previous month – a record-breaking 18,500.

“April achievement was also 29.4% higher than the 12,300 units sold in the same month last year. However, the 15,900 units sold was 14.1% lower compared with the 18,500 units (Perodua’s record) achieved in March 2010,” Aminar added.

For its other models, the runaway success model, the Myvi continues to hold a strong fort on top of the nation’s sales charts, returning some 6,300 sales for the month of April 2010 to Perodua. The Viva sold 5,800 units, while the Alza accounted for 3,800 units in the same month. The company also picked up some 18,000 bookings over the month.

“We are also on course to achieve our 176,000 units sales by registration target this year. For the first 4 months 2010, we have sold 63,700 units, ahead of the 59,900 units planned,” Aminar said.
